About King’s

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of London's largest and busiest teaching hospitals, with a unique profile of strong local services and a focused set of specialist services.

King’s provides Specialist Centre Care for Children and Adults with Cystic Fibrosis.

Paediatric Service

Specialist CF care for children at King's was started in the mid 1980s by Professor John Price. The service now comprises a large multidisciplinary team including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dietician and social worker.

The system of shared care was set up in 1988 and has grown such that we now care for around 150 children jointly with a paediatrician in their local hospital. A smaller number of our patients receive all their CF care here.

Transition Service

Our aim is to provide an easy move from paediatric to adult CF care. For each young person their needs and feelings about the move will be different and we offer a flexible, but structured process that is adapted to the individual.

Adult Service

The adult CF service was established in 1999 and provides specialist adult CF care for approximately 160 patients.

The multidisciplinary team includes the medical team; 2 consultants, 3 specialist CF nurses, plus a team of junior doctors. Additionally there are dedicated physiotherapists, dietitians, a pharmacist, social worker and a clinical psychologist. The CF service also has available onsite specialist clinical intervention for the management of all CF related complications.
